In this webinar, the representative of the
Ministry of Manpower shares the existing government laws and regulation
related to gender equality, non-discrimination, and inclusiveness in the
world of work.
Background
The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately
affected many people. The pandemic is also exposing and deepening
existing inequalities, and disproportionately affecting marginalized and
vulnerable communities that are, too often, left without access to
critical tools and services. Inequalities, fuelled by stigma and
discrimination, have obstructed the access to employment for many
people, including women, people with disabilities, people living with
HIV, compounding the economic hardships those people already faced
before the pandemic.
Furthermore, the pandemic has led to
increased concern over workplace discrimination, an alarming consequence
characterized by wrongful termination or discrimination because of age,
race, disability status, parenthood, company position, health status,
and other identifying characteristics. The economic toll of this latest
public health crisis has been unprecedented, leaving many workers at a
disproportionate risk for financial strain and job loss.
In this
time of crisis, there is increasing concern about how to best protect
the rights of workers during this time and ensure safe and healthy
working conditions. Governance arrangements have played a critical role
in countries’ immediate responses, and to ensure that the rights of
workers are fulfilled. However, not many people know about the
government regulations on labour. A better understanding of inclusive
regulation can help both employer and employee to create a gender equal,
non-discriminative, and inclusive workplace
Against this
backdrop, the United Nations initiates to implement a project
“Employment and Livelihood: An Inclusive Approach to Economic
Empowerment of Women & Vulnerable Populations in Indonesia”. The
project is funded by the UN Multi-Partner Trust Funds (UN MPTF). Four UN
agencies, International Labour Organization (ILO), UN Development
Programme (UNDP), Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS),
and UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) implement the project. This webinar series
is one of the activities in the project.
The webinar series is
in collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower, Association of
Indonesian Employers (APINDO), Indonesia Business and Disability Network
(IBDN), Indonesia Business Coalition for Women Empowerment (IBCWE), the
National Movement for Competent Indonesia (Gerakan Nasional Indonesia
Kompeten, GNIK) and other like-minded organisations. One of the topics
is Regulations: Inclusive Regulations for a Better World of Work. In
this topic, we would like the representative of the Ministry of Manpower
to share the existing government laws and regulation related to gender
equality, non-discrimination, and inclusiveness at workplaces, with the
human resource practitioners and public as the target audience.
Objectives
This
webinar aims to raise awareness to HR practitioners and public about
existing government laws and regulation related to gender equality,
non-discrimination, and inclusiveness at workplaces. By having the
awareness, it is expected that the audience can make their workplaces to
be equal, non-discriminative, and inclusive for everyone.
